Counteract has been the leading tire balancing technology on the market for over 25 years. We have seen our fair share of good tires, bad tires, tires that are no longer round and everything in between. In certain markets, there seems to be a strange mentality as to what application you should or should not balance a tire for.
For example, when it comes to passenger cars, balancing a tire is never a question or needs to have a reason explained as to why it’s done. When you buy a car, the tires are balanced, when you get new tires, they are balanced, when you rotate your tires, they are usually re-balanced. The reason is that balance is essential to an efficient smooth ride and rider comfort but also helps to decrease fuel consumption and allows the tires to last for, at least, the life that is advertised.
However, this mentality changes when you get into the commercial trucking market. There is a myth set by some tire manufacturers that suggests their commercial truck tires don’t need to be balanced. How is that possible for a tire that is on average 6oz-8oz out of balance, and roughly three times heavier than a traditional passenger tire? On top of the weight, regardless of the tire itself, it is mounted to an entire rotating wheel assembly to include the wheel, hub and brake drum/disc depending on the application. All these components are bolted and rotate together in uniform, but all these components also have tolerances from the factory. To assume that all these tolerances match up perfectly and require no balance whatsoever is quite honestly, ignorant. When tires are balanced in this market, it is typically the steer tires. This is because that is where the operator will feel the vibrations and imbalances, but also first notice the signs of irregular tire wear. However, the drive tires and trailer tires are rarely balanced. This is because the operator doesn’t really feel those imbalances due to the weight of the vehicle and its load, but its impacts are certainly felt in the pocket of the driver or the fleet and can certainly be seen in the wear of the tires. Counteract Balancing Beads is the only balancing product on the market that has proven to increase fuel mileage by 2.2% in two independently run SAE J1321 / TMC RP-1102 Type II fuel tests, and frequently extends the steer tire life by 50% or more. With commercial trailer tires specifically, 33.3% is the average life extension.
Lastly, this brings us to another market that has frequently neglected, or rendered tire balance obsolete, and that is the utility trailer market. This includes boat trailers, campers, dump trailers, car haulers, lowboy trailers, enclosed trailers, horse trailers, you name it.
Counteract has gone aggressively after this market and has proven again the importance of trailer tire balance and the benefits it has, not only to the OEM suppliers, but the trailer owners themselves. Prior to Counteracts’ success, and during our market research it was discovered how different this market is specifically from all the others we service. It is very cut-throat if you will, and manufacturers tend to ruffle partnerships over the difference of $0.03 just to stay competitive. On top of this, there is the mentality that a trailer tire does not need to be balanced, or they cannot balance them because it is not cost effective, or they do not have the special adapters and cones for the machine to do so. This is where we step in. The market is right, it is not cost effective or worth the time to balance a trailer tire, the traditional way that is. The cost of wheel weights, lead, steel, zinc has skyrocketed, especially during the global pandemic making the costs associated with a traditional balance far too expensive…but you know what hasn’t changed? Do you know what has not experienced any sort of production and shipping delays, but also has not increased its prices and provides tremendous value that can’t be matched? Counteract Balancing Beads. Not only do we produce the best tire balancing product(s) on the market, but it is also made from 99.9% recycled material, is eco-friendly and provides a plethora of benefits to your trailer application. Since Counteract is placed inside the tire as it is being mounted there are no added labor costs, no need for expensive balancing machines and no need for an extensive inventory of wheel weights. With those savings alone, the product pays for itself, let alone all the other benefits that Counteract provides due to its functionality.
How Counteract Works
Once Counteract is placed inside the tire, as it begins to roll it will self-adjust and balance not only the wheel and tire, but the entire rotating assembly. By doing so, the product can change and reposition itself on the fly adapting to new out-of-balance conditions. While this is happening, Counteract is proven to provide a perfectly smooth ride, decrease rolling resistance, provide even tire wear, and eliminate wheel-end imbalance vibrations which in turn saves on frame components, pre-mature suspension wear and cargo damage to name a few. Using Counteract also eliminates the possibility of wheel weights flying off, causing vehicle damage, leaving an environmental impact, adding costs to re-balance your tires, or have the weights begin to wear because they only balance your wheel and tire at the time it is mounted.
