There are various tire lubrication products available, and selecting the appropriate one for your vehicle is crucial to avoid problems down the line. Insufficient lubrication can result in damage to your tire, rim, and equipment, while using the wrong lubricant can lead to tire slippage.
Avoiding Inadequate Lubrication
It is advisable to steer clear of using soapy water, solvent-based lubricants, as well as any petroleum-based lubricants. These substances can cause tire slippage and premature tire wear. Instead, we always recommend utilizing a euro-style mounting paste or mounting lubricant with rust inhibitors. Euro-style mounting paste offers exceptional lubrication, is compatible with TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), and creates tack, preventing wheel slippage. It does not harm the tire or wheel and is ideal for demanding applications with stiff side walls or low profiles. Apply the paste generously, avoiding excess material inside the tire cavity. Due to its thicker consistency, it is best to apply it with a brush rather than a cloth.
For commercial tires, the most commonly used lubricant is mounting lube with rust inhibitors. This lubricant has a slightly darker brown hue and is made from processed vegetable oils. It can be diluted with water and ensures proper seating of the tire on the rim without causing damage to any components or equipment. Its gelatin-like consistency facilitates easy application, while the rust inhibitors prevent damage to the bead seating area.
Importance of Proper Lubrication Selection
Ultimately, the purpose of a lubricant is to ensure the tire is properly seated on the wheel without causing any harm. Any lubricant is better than none, but selecting the appropriate lubrication can save a considerable amount of time and money for any shop.
